I'll Be Teaching at Oxford Translates
Thrilled to be running a workshop on translating comics (ahem: graphic novels) at this year’s Oxford Translates, an online literary translation summer school open to language enthusiasts and practicing translators anywhere in the world, at any stage of their career.
This summer, workshops will be running into English from 10 languages – Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Norwegian, Russian, Spanish, Urdu – plus there is a multilanguage workshop for translators working in any other language. Workshops out of English run from French, German, Italian and Spanish.
At this 5-day summer intensive, I’ll be joining a stellar lineup of award-winning and leading professional translators, including: Sawad Hussain, Jack Hargreaves, Nicky Harman, Sarah Ardizzone, Natasha Lehrer, Lucy Jones, Clarissa Botsford, Polly Barton, Morgan Giles, Kari Dickson, Anna Gunin, Rosalind Harvey, Annie McDermott, Naima Rashid, Daniel Hahn, and more.
Workshops are limited to a maximum of 12 students, further divided into small groups to tackle fun and stimulating exercises over 3 days. The other 2 days are filled with panels on industry trends, job readiness and workshops on particular themes or genres.
The brainchild of Ros Schwartz and Holly Langstaff, this summer school moved to Oxford’s St Edmund Hall in 2026 after being previously hosted by the University of Bristol (Bristol Translates), the University of Warwick (Warwick Translates) and City St George’s, University of London (Translate at City).
